Los Pinguos. Vivacious and infectious band from Argentina. June 19, 9 p.m. Sacajawea Center Outdoor Amphitheatre, Salmon, Idaho.
They came to the US from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban Tres, Peruvian cajan (box-drum) and harmonizing vocals. Vivacious and infectious, the sound of Los Pinguos has claimed fans worldwide, from their hometown to the streets of Los Angeles.

Newly arrived to the City of Angels in early 2001, Los Pinguos began playing at local bars such as The Latin Lounge, The Knitting Factory, Key Club, Temple Bar & Little Temple.

Since then, they have recorded three new albums and played with such acts as Ozomatli, Yerba Buena, Charlie Zaa & Pablo Montero at the Wiltern Theatre, Paul Anka & Placido Domingo at the Music Center of Los Angeles, Charly Garcia and famed Argentinean rockers Bersuit Vergarabat. Most recently they appeared at the 2005 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL with female songstress Suzanne Vega. Los Pinguos' music is featured in the Antonio Banderas & Emma Thompson film "Imagining Argentina".

The Lovell Sisters, hot, young, award-winning bluegrass from Calhoun, Georgia and the Nouveaux Honkies, blistering hot acoustic blues band from Florida. June 27, 7:30 p.m. Sacajawea Center Outdoor Amphitheatre, Salmon, Idaho.
Early signs were clear, when the ensemble from Calhoun, Georgia, won the "A Prairie Home Companion" talent contest. Then Rebecca won Merlefest's mandolin contest, the youngest contestant -- and first female -- to do so.

But it is harmony, rather than competition, that most distinguishes the group. Whether performing their original compositions or re-envisioning an old standard, The Lovell Sisters Band blends as only the classic family ensembles can. They provide a breath of fresh air and a sense of reassurance, that the music will be in good hands as it gets passed on to the next generation.

Their innovative fusion of country, folk, and contemporary acoustic music causes reporters around the nation to write "Their energy is awesome and nobody in the Americana world wants to follow them on stage" - The Chattanooga Press. "All three of the sisters have exceptional musical talent and impressive stage presence that far surpasses the [Dixie] Chicks" __ The Santa Barbara Independent. Come see the best that Georgia has to offer!

Reckless Kelly and Muzzie Braun

Reckless Kelly and Muzzie Braun in Concert. July 6, at the Sacajawea Center Outdoor Amphitheater, Salmon, Idaho.
Review of "Reckless Kelly Was Here" by Michael Scott Cain__Rambles.NET, a cultural arts magazine

These guys, an up-and-coming country-rock band from Austin, Texas, have put out a few previous albums, but their reputation rests on their live shows. Listening to these CDs and watching this DVD, you understand why. These guys rock.

You get the feeling that you'll never be able to predict what's coming next. A country ballad will be followed by a folky number, which will lead into a Richard Thompson cover and an Irish jig. These guys will definitely keep you off-balance.

Whatever they choose to do though, you can count on a couple of things. Wherever they take you on their musical journey, you'll be glad you went along and if you weren't a fan of theirs when you put these CDs on, you will be when they finish playing and you take them off.

Sunday, August 10. Sacajawea Center Outdoor Amphitheatre. "...this young quintet from County Antrim is as innovative as Celtic mavericks Solas and Lunasa."
Beoga (Irish word for ‘lively’) are a five-piece traditional band based in County Antrim, Ireland. The band was drawn together after ‘jamming’ in a ferocious music session at the All-Ireland Fleadh in August 2002.

"A heady, virtually head-spinning sonic blend stamping Beoga as perhaps the most audacious Irish band rooted in trad today. For finesse, fire and flirtatious fun, this album is an overflowing treat, and among Irish bands launched in this new millennium, Beoga joins Grada as two of the most promising to watch." An Evening with Bob Berky. Dinner Theatre. Saturday, October 11. Salmon Valley Center
Bob Berky, a world traveling master of slapstick comedy, will bring his suitcase of tricks to the Salmon Valley Center on Saturday, October 11.

Using only physical clowning, the power of suggestion and the somehow understandable blurting of a kazoo, Berky delivers ninety minutes of sheer physical comedy, eccentric characters, and deep belly laughs. "Laughter it was. Unadulterated, uninhibited roars of hysteria" is what Berky is capable of creating, according to the Hong Kong Festival Review.

Winner of the OBIE and The Kennedy Center's New American Plays Award, Berky has traveled and performed as a solo artist around the world. Berky has appeared at New York's Dance Theatre Workshop, Lincoln Theater, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Off-Broadway with Michael Moschen. Berky has also made some notable T.V. appearances on PBS, Canal Plus, MTV, Disney and Nickelodeon.

Berky has also taught at many universities and theatres such as the Juilliard School, Brandeis University, Smith College, and the North Carolina School for the Arts.

Besides directing the movement for Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival's production of "Twelfth Night," he has also worked as a movemnt coach for Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Gregory Hines.

Scottish fiddle legend, Alasdair Fraser and young cello ace, Natalie Haas. November 11, Veteran's Day, 7:30 p.m., Salmon Valley Center.
"...the Michael Jordan of Scottish fiddling" __San Francisco Examiner

"Witness the duo of Scottish fiddle star Fraser and cello prodigy Haas. He is from Clackmannan, a small town in Scotland's smallest county. She is a Juilliard grad from California. While his fiddle dances, her cello throbs darkly or plucks puckishly. Then she opens her cello's throat, joining Fraser in soaring sustains, windswept refrains, and sudden, jazzy explosions. Their sound is as urbane as a Manhattan midnight, and as wild as a Clackmannan winter." __Boston Globe
